In 1961, Sanyang Motor — SYM — signed a technical agreement with Honda of Japan. By 1969 they were assembling Honda Civics and Accords under license alongside Honda scooters and motorcycles. That manufacturing relationship ran for decades, and the discipline it left behind is still inside every SYM that lands at our door.
Today SYM is independent. They're a top-tier Taiwanese OEM with plants in Taiwan, China, and Vietnam, and they build scooters under contract for Lance Powersports as well as under their own name. Their reputation among the people who research scooters before they buy them is simple: the closest you can get to Honda or Yamaha build quality without paying Honda or Yamaha pricing.

Same 169cc EFI drivetrain as the Fiddle, repackaged in a more aggressive body. ABS standard (the Fiddle uses CBS), LED projector headlight, 14" wheels, sportier riding position. The SYM for a buyer who doesn't want the retro look but does want the SYM build.

278cc single, 83 mph, 84 MPG. Freeway-legal in Florida, fully causeway-ready, even rideable to the Keys. This is the do-everything SYM — and it lists thousands less than a comparably equipped Yamaha XMAX or Honda Forza 300. If you live in Brickell and commute to South Beach across the MacArthur every morning, this is the right scooter on this lot.

Worth knowing if you cross-shop. Every current Lance scooter — Havana Classic, Cali Classic, Cabo, PCH — is built by SYM in Taiwan under contract. The mechanical DNA is identical to what's on the SYM side of our showroom. The difference is the bodywork, the badge, and the warranty terms (both are 24-month / unlimited-mile parts and labor).
If you like Lance's Italian-style retro look and price, buy a Lance. If you like SYM's own designs — more contemporary, more technically equipped (ABS on the Jet 14, fuel injection earlier in the lineup, ceramic-coated bores), more freeway-capable at the top end — buy a SYM.

24 months. Unlimited miles. Parts and labor. Tire-to-tire. Original registered owner only. Battery covered the first month (industry standard). Warranty registration must be completed within 30 days — we do it for you at delivery.
Parts pipeline: Alliance Powersports (the US distributor for SYM, Lance, and Scootstar) operates a parts warehouse in California with a national fulfillment pipeline. We stock common service parts on-site.
Service: SYM-trained technicians on Bay Road, six days a week.

FAQ
Is SYM a Chinese scooter?
No. SYM (Sanyang Motor) is Taiwanese, founded in 1954 in Taipei, with plants in Taiwan, China, and Vietnam. The company was Honda's Taiwan manufacturing partner for decades.
Why have I never heard of SYM?
Lower marketing budget in the US than Honda or Yamaha. The engineers, scooter forums, and people who ride for a living know SYM well — it's a brand that earns its reputation by miles, not by ad spend.
Is the Citycom S 300i fast enough for the highway?
Yes. 83 mph top speed, freeway-legal, no problem on the MacArthur, Tuttle, or 79th St. causeways. Even rideable on I-95 between Miami and Fort Lauderdale.
What's the difference between the Fiddle 4 and the Jet 14?
Same 169cc EFI engine. Fiddle has retro Italian-style bodywork and CBS brakes; Jet has sport bodywork, ABS, and a more upright riding position with 14" wheels.
How does SYM compare to Lance?
SYM builds Lance. The mechanical platforms are shared. Lance offers Italian-style bodywork at a slightly lower price point; SYM offers more technical equipment (ABS, EFI deeper in the lineup, larger displacements) under its own name.
Do I need a motorcycle endorsement for the Mio 50?
No. Florida lets you ride ≤50cc on a regular Class E driver's license.
What's the resale on a SYM?
Lower than Honda, higher than no-name imports. The 24-month tire-to-tire warranty plus EFI drivetrain means low-drama ownership — most SYM owners keep them. Resale isn't the reason you buy a SYM; low total cost of ownership over 5–7 years is.
